A six-sided, internally threaded fastener, designed to be used specifically with machine screws and bolts of property class 8.8 and lower. 10MM diameter J.I.S. (Japanese Industry Standard) fasteners have a smaller hex dimension (14MM across the flats) than DIN metric fasteners (17MM across the flats). They fit in those tight spots where the hex of a DIN fastener is too large. J.I.S. fasteners are often used on import cars.
